I'm on a short break before heading back to the studio. So, I've resumed the 40 x 40 piece I started and restarted months ago. It wasn't my plan but I'm progressing and it's working out better. I'm not altogether sure how it fits into the project I'm working toward. I just know it's taking up a great deal of space in my work area and needs to head upstairs to the gallery asap.  On Wednesday,  I'm dropping off a few pieces for the group show at Arts Clayton Gallery. Artistic Framing

Not only do I have small home improvement projects on the table, but my creative endeavors now include framing my miniature pieces on canvas. I don't know why it's taken me so long to do this.  I bought a cream colored spray paint for the frame but it didn't work out very well. Since I have about 7 minis on canvas, my plan was to have all of the frames the same color but pulling colors out of the painting itself not only enhances the art, it becomes a part of the work. Several pieces will make a nice ensemble. Miniatures as Color Studies

  Since I've restarted larger works and trying to change the texture on flesh, I started small compositions on miniature canvases to practice color, as well as technique. What turned out was actually the only way I could develop the work. You see, miniatures haven't been a common format in the past, especially not anything as small as 4 x 4 inches.  The challenge for miniatures is getting detailed and multiple elements into a small space so that it has the same significance as any larger work I've done.
