The Show Will Go On
Posted by Tosh Fomby on

Two nights ago, I had the worst dream. For some reason, I didn't make it to my October show and once I arrived, everyone was set up except me. My mom was volunteering and I asked her to call the people in charge to see if I could set up although I was late. She didn't want to. She was shucking and jiving, then finally picked up the phone to ask. They said no. I cried and cried in the dream and had to wake up from it. You see, I haven't shown in awhile. My new work has primarily...

Work in Progress
Posted by Tosh Fomby on

I'm on a short break before heading back to the studio. So, I've resumed the 40 x 40 piece I started and restarted months ago. It wasn't my plan but I'm progressing and it's working out better. I'm not altogether sure how it fits into the project I'm working toward. I just know it's taking up a great deal of space in my work area and needs to head upstairs to the gallery asap. On Wednesday, I'm dropping off a few pieces for the group show at Arts Clayton Gallery. The show will hang from September 1 to 26. I...

Dance Floor No. 2 is (obviously) the second in a series of several pieces of this type. It's actually leading toward the completion of a much larger piece and I've already worked the sketches for it. I believe the woodcut for the larger piece is 40 x 60 inches. Haven't quite figured out if it'll be a layered wood piece or flat. These dance pieces on canvas boards are somewhat of a playground for me. As I write this, I'm at a birthday party of an aunt, so the music playing is reminiscent of what I listened to in the...

Winding Down
Posted by Tosh Fomby on

Nearing October, I feel as I always do prior to a show. Anxious. Nervous. Somewhat scattered. Not enough inventory. I'm taking a deep breath now and releasing. I've abandoned exercising. Pretty much. Still eating well, so at least I have that going for myself. Other than this temporary discombulation, I'm fine. Yeah... I must say, I was heartbroken at the news of Toni Morrison's passing. I did a series of portrait sketches last month, during my time in Florida. Some years ago, I rendered one of Toni Morrison. So. I'm looking at a redo in my new process, hoping I...
Prepping for Art Shows
Posted by Tosh Fomby on

It's been a very busy summer, as I prep to exhibit in art shows. Not many. 2 actually and really, the second one will take much preparation, which has been pushing me to get ready, get ready. I've, lately, put more efforts into completing small originals and coasters. The end of the month will see me finishing a 40 x 40 inches, among other pieces. More framed prints on tile are coming. I hope they sell well, as I haven't sold one yet. It's new, so there's time yet. Speaking of which, it's about time to shop for more wood....
